About the Project

As remote work solutions evolved, I contributed as a UX Designer, focusing on enhancing the VIVE Desk experience across macOS and Windows.

My goal was to streamline installation, optimize user workflows, and improve virtual office interactions for a more intuitive experience. I led the project through three key phases: competitive analysis, user research, and UI/UX design implementation.

Competitive Analysis

At the initial stage of product development, we analyzed 4 VR competitors to identify user needs and pain points from daily experiences, comparing setup, control, display, and latency. Our goal for VIVE Desk is to transcend office software and offer multifaceted enjoyment!

Explore User Needs in Virtual Office Solutions

Test with Goovis and VIVE Desk for daily using.

  • Focusing on virtual screen setup, adjustments, and control methods.

Overall performance comparing

Comparison of VIVE Desk and Virtual Desktop across: visual quality, user experience, input integration, and latency.

Visual Performance

For office needs, the clarity and rendering of fonts and images are crucial for browsing websites and working on documents. We simulated daily office tasks like word processing and web browsing.

  • Compared color accuracy, text clarity, reading comfort, and latency.

User Experience

Evaluated software installation and download process.

  • Analyzed connectivity and control mechanisms.

  • Identified strengths and weaknesses for targeted optimization.

Overall Findings

Something that can refer to others

  • Tutorial
Providing the tutorial step-by-step to let user learn how to operate the system.

  • Scene
Offering a variety of scene options to suit different use cases, e.g. cinema, study.

  • Brightness
Screen brightness adjustment settings to cater to comfort needs at different operation times.

  • Information
Displaying information at the bottom of the screen for more intuitive and convenient browsing.

  • Virtual keyboard
Using a virtual keyboard with ray operation is engaging for short-term use but not suitable for extended typing tasks.

Gaming Latency Comparison

Not only for work, but for gaming!

Tested boost mode at 60 and 90 fps on platform games.

  • Evaluated wireless connectivity and gameplay performance.

  • Focused on seamless integration and overall gaming experience.

Design

Designed the VIVE Desk version tailored for the macOS system.

With product updates, VIVE Desk now supports both Windows and MacOS platforms.
For MacOS, the operation process and UI design were optimized to align with its system behavior and display requirements.

What I did

  • Designed the installation and permission flow for VIVE Hub OS version.

  • Developed the version update process for Server (PC) and Client (HMD).

  • Created the process and functionality for accessing Server/Client logs.

Status

Customizable virtual workspace (Only support on Windows)

In addition to built-in environment options, users can upload their preferred environments and desktop textures to personalize their virtual workspace.

What I did

  • Designed the process for user customization of environments and desktop textures.

  • Collaborated with the development team to discuss and implement modifications.
